Our Printing Process
Expect museum-quality prints that are visually vibrant and built to last generations. Every Morrison Hotel Gallery printed photograph is created using the high-resolution technology to create modern scans from original film or negatives, then digitally remastered and printed using:
● 200-year archival ink.
● Platine Fibre Rag 310 Archival Inkjet Paper from Canson Infinity, 100% cotton fibre rag.
● Proprietary color calibration ensures exceptional accuracy.
Note: As a company, we represent 60+ photographers who print to their individual
specifications. Each print is quality assured by our Director of Fulfillment before it reaches its destination. If you have questions about the printing process from a specific photographer or your selected work(s), please contact one of our galleries.
Certificate of Authenticity
Each limited-edition print includes a Certificate of Authenticity. This verifies your piece as a genuine work and can enhance its value over time. Be sure to keep your certificate in a safe place.
Retouching & Spotting
● Retouching involves respectful restoration of the raw scans from the original negative. It
may include color correction, enhancement, and stabilization of the image.
● Spotting is the precise application of ink or graphite to fix small imperfections, such as
dust spots on the print.
These techniques ensure the authentic viewpoint of the photographer and the preservation of the photographer's intent.
Matting
A window mat made from archival acid-free, museum-quality board not only enhances
presentation but also protects your print. All mat borders are 2.5 inch wide, 4-ply Crescent Rag Mat.
Custom Framing
All orders require custom frames. These gallery-quality frames are built to last for generations.
Our standard framing specifications are as followed:
Prints 11’ x 14’ through 30’ x 40’ receive 2.5 inch mat borders.
Prints 40’ x 50’ receive 3 inch mat borders.
All frames receive 1.5 inch black wood moulding.

Signed vs. Unsigned Prints
Signed prints display the photographer's signature either on the front (recto) or back (verso) in pencil or archival ink. Unsigned prints may be part of an archival collection but the photographer did not sign or stamp it, leaving authorship uncertain. Morrison Hotel Gallery does not sell unsigned artworks.
Vintage vs. Modern Prints
Vintage Prints are made near the time the photo was taken. Modern or Later Prints are created from the original negative at a later date and may feature enhanced materials or printing techniques. Posthumous Prints or Estate Prints are produced under an artist’s estate and should be authenticated and editioned.
Digital Originals & Digital Negatives
A digital original refers to an image captured with a digital camera or created through software. It serves the same role as a traditional negative, holding all the data for final printing. These files are rendered into high-resolution physical prints using the latest digital imaging technology.
