From the iconic covers of Eminem's 'The Marshall Mathers LP' and XXL magazine's 20th anniversary edition featuring Nicki Minaj to Aaliyah's last studio shoot, the highlights of photographer Jonathan Mannion are vast but among the crown jewels of his archive is this candid moment from a particularly star-studded evening in the summer of 1995 at NYC's Palladium, a downtown haunt which played host to legends of nightlife and music alike in the decades prior to the address' reincarnation as an NYU dorm. Pulling unmistakable focus is Biggie Smalls on the mic, playing to a packed house of industry moguls and East Coast faithfuls yet perhaps less recognizable are those tousled tresses and freshly manicured nails occupying the lower foreground belong to none other than fellow Junior M.A.F.I.A member, the Queen Bee herself, Lil Kim.
