ABOUT THIS PIECE
Original Vintage Print from the Ed Caraeff Archive.Signed on reverse in pencil by Ed Caraeff13 ½ x 10 ½“Since I’d already met Elton and Bernie in London when I was hired by Three Dog Night to join their European tour, I had a good connection. Three Dog Night covered an Elton/Bernie song, Lady Samantha on their first album, and they both came to the London show to thank them. After the show they asked if we’d like to hear the brand new first Crosby Stills Nash album at Dick James Music Studio, we did. This close-up head shot was taken while he was sitting on the edge of his bed at the Continental Hyatt House on the day Elton arrived in LA for the first Troubadour gig. I selected that image to print on my newly acquired cloth based photo paper which I then sepia-toned. I was a photographer who did all my own darkroom work and made all my own color and B&W prints. When I showed the sepia cloth print to Elton it became the cover of his Honky Château album. The first releases of the album package even had the photo printed and embossed to try and duplicate my work.” -Ed Caraeff
