The image of Aretha Franklin was captured by David Gahr in December 1967 where he documented exclusively, at the invitation of Jerry Wexler, a recording session with Aretha at the Atlantic Studios in NYC. Ms. Franklin was recording tracks with Jerry Wexler, Arif Mardin and Tom Dowd and the famous Muscle Shoals sidemen, imported to NYC, for what would be one of her most celebrated albums, Aretha Now, released in 1968. David Gahr also took the color cover image for that album, as well.
