Herrington made his first portrait of a famous musician, Benny Goodman, at 13, and has since photographed the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis and Dolly Parton, with work appearing in Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and The New York Times since the 1980s. Alongside his music portraiture he spent some twenty years photographing pioneering mountaineers for his book The Climbers.
