During the Kind of Blue sessions, Miles Davis provided his sextet with a schematic framework for the modal improvisations that would comprise the album. Though primarily a trumpet player, Davis used the piano as a compositional tool. This rare shot of Miles at the keys provides a candid insight into his working methods as well as a glimpse into the studio ambience that created one of the most atmospheric and influential albums of all-time.
