Eddie Vedder hanging from the stage at the Drop in the Park show in Seattle, Washington, 1992. Held on September 20 at Magnuson Park, the free concert was Pearl Jam's thank-you to their hometown and doubled as a voter-registration drive during the election season. It replaced an earlier show at Gas Works Park that the city had canceled over crowd concerns. Midway through the set, Vedder climbed the stage scaffolding with a 100-foot microphone cable trailing behind him and swung out over the crowd.
Lance Mercer, a Seattle photographer started shooting local bands at 13, and toured with Pearl Jam from their first tour Ten and stayed with them for years. Bassist Jeff Ament said, "Lance was one of the few guys that we really trusted."
