The Firebirds are out, so it’s gotta be “Runnin’ Down A Dream.” That’s a classic shot of Mike and Tom during that song.

The 2013 tour was a lot of fun, especially the two residencies the band did that summer at the Beacon Theatre in New York City and the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood.

Whether it was playing smaller, more intimate venues, or the simple fact that they got to set up camp and spend a few days getting familiar with one place, I don’t know, but those two runs seemed to bring out the best in Tom and the band. They really dug in and explored the catalog, playing some deep album cuts, cool covers and other rarities. Lots of family and friends came out for those shows, they were really joyous events.

“Runnin’ Down A Dream” always offered a nice opportunity to get photos of Mike and Tom together. Not that they didn’t interact on other songs, but you could count on them to be in close proximity for that song in particular. Watching them play together, it was easy to see the incredible connection and love between these two friends of more than 40 years. The Captain and the Co-Captain, as Tom called Mike every night onstage when he introduced the band. They were more than friends, bandmates, or partners. They were brothers.
