This is one of my favorites from the 40th Anniversary tour. It’s from the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas in May 2017.
Tom had just taken off his acoustic guitar after playing the final notes of “Learning to Fly,” and he held it up in the air. The photo feels very intimate, even though Tom is standing onstage at a sold-out arena surrounded by thousands of cheering fans. There’s a stillness to it that I really love.
