Van Halen (backstage) Spectrum, Philadelphia, 1981
ABOUT THIS PIECE
“Van Halen was now playing sold out arenas and were becoming mainstream. I was ecstatic when I got the assignment from US Weekly to fly to Kansas City, MO to shoot the band. They definitely opened the doors for rock and metal for the decade to come. I had shot them backstage a handful of times on their previous tours and I was getting to know them. I was now working for many magazines and Diamond Dave loved being in them. I spent the whole day and night with Van Halen shooting all the shenanigans that went on. This was definitely a “bonding” shoot. Next time I would shoot them I would be the hired gun.” — Mark “WEISSGUY” Weiss
