PAUL SALTZMAN REMEMBERS:To India's 800 million Hindus, the Ganges is Ganga-Ma, or Mother Ganges, the holiest of rivers, making Rishikesh a pilgrimage centre filled with temples and hostels, and a centre for yoga, meditation and philosophical studies. This photo is taken from the Lakshman Jhoola bridge several kilometres upstream from the ashram.
