The 1972 tour supported Exile on Main St. and was the Stones' first American run since Altamont in 1969, bringing private planes, limos and higher stages. Running from Vancouver on June 3 to Madison Square Garden on July 26, it set the blueprint for the modern rock tour, with a private jet, a traveling press corps and a much publicized stay at the Chicago Playboy Mansion. Ethan Russell, who had photographed the band's 1969 tour and the Beatles' Let It Be sessions, documented it from the inside.
