Rick James at home, NY, 1981
ABOUT THIS PIECE
“I shot Rick at his home in Buffalo, New York, for US Weekly. It was a long day of shooting in every room in his house and also outside, where he posed with his horse and classic cars. Rick had made it mainstream with his hit, “Super Freak,” and he wanted to show the world his long overdue success. I stayed over in the guesthouse and partied with his entourage. It was fun times and there were many more shoots to come. When he played a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden on September 3, 1981 he asked me to shoot it for him. I started touring with Rick. I recently was featured in the documentary, The Sound and Fury of Rick James.” — Mark “WEISSGUY” Weiss
