Phil Collins, NYC, 1982
“I was on assignment for the entertainment magazine US Weekly. Artists would often have photo sessions at my studio or at their homes. Many times when they were doing press in New York I would be sent to the hotels they were staying at where there were publicists, managers and an entourage. That wasn’t the case for Phil. He simply opened the door and welcomed me in with a very nice polite smile. I was never crazy about hotel shoots, as they are very impersonal. But I always brought a small backdrop with me to create a photo studio for some nice portraits. That’s when it’s up to you to get the moment, to connect as a photographer.” —Mark “WEISSGUY” Weiss
